As good as the expensive ones, cheaper packaging but doesn’t matter, December 3, 2013

In my search for the perfect shave I bought these along with some more expensive ones (feather). These seem to work just as well as the more expensive ones and with 100 in a pack I can have a clean new razor every time I shave and it doesn’t cost me an arm and a leg.

I end up shaving 3 times (2 times with grain, 1 sideways) this is the best way to not get razor burn and since these are so damn sharp its a closer shave than I ever got with my Mock3 razor which also did 3 passes i just one stroke and I was going over my face 2 times.

UPDATE: I think these razors are perfect for learning how to shave with a double edge razor as they are not too crazy sharp. I have started to use Feather razors and damn they are super sharp but using the techniques I learned from these blades I am a much better shave with the feather blades. I think the key is basically to apply almost no pressure to your face, I mean almost none. I thought I was using a light touch but using even less I no longer cut my neck and get a great shave!

The more you read reviews about blades, the more confused you are likely to become. The same blade that is praised by some is scorned by others. Finding the right blade comes down to trial and error.

One of the shortcomings of most reviews is that the blade is simply graded by that person without any context or prior blade usage being provided. You’re unable to determine whether that person’s experience or shaving history match yours.

With that in mind, here’s my attempt. I consider my beard tough, albeit patchy. My skin is extremely sensitive, especially on the neck.

I bought a sampler pack when I began wet shaving. I started with Merkur and then moved to Bic. Both blades caused irritation and felt uncomfortable. I can’t dismiss that my inexperience played a role in this discomfort.

I moved on to Derby. This blade proved very comfortable and the irritation disappeared. I knew that Derby was a “forgiving” blade, and one of its drawbacks was a supposed lack of closeness. I was willing to make that tradeoff for comfort.

My biggest problem with Derby involved “quality control.” The blades lacked consistency. I’d get close shaves with some, only to get the opposite with the next blade used.

I read about the Personna “Lab Blues” and gave them a shot. These blades are called “Lab Blues.” They differ from other Personna blades because the word “Super” is stamped on the blade face. Similar Personna blades have an arrow design stamped on the blade face. I’ve tried those as well. They lack the comfort of the “Lab Blues.”

These blades provide the necessary closeness without the tugging and irritation. Just to make sure, I went back again to test the Merkur and Bic for comparison. The Personna blades were far more comfortable and effective. I’m done searching for the right blade.

Hope this history helps and that you find your best blade.

Double edged razor blades that fit every known double edged razor, Made In America, 25% sharper, 100 blades at $13.75 = $0.14 per blade…if you use one blade every four shaves that’s a little over $0.03 per shave. I use mine in both a 1947 Gillette Super Speed, a 1967 Schick Krona and a brand new Merkur 33C…one of which will out last any new cartridge razor and two others that already have and still will:)
Great blades that give a smooth comfortable shave at a fantastic price made in America. Throw your 3/4/5 blade gimmick razor that costs more than it was ever worth along with those $1.65 – $3.50 each cartridge blades in the garbage and get a better shave cheaper with a tool that will last a life time if you take care of it.
Save money, support American labor, get a better shave.
